People, Comments and Reactions

Ever notice how a simple comment made by an insignificant person can affect you for days to come? Starts out as an unnoticeable itch, one that doesn’t seem itch-worthy in the beginning, but begins to get annoying until you acknowledge it. But by the time you acknowledge it, the parts around it also start itching. And then tada….you end up with a full-blown itch that has to be itched every now and then to give you comfort.

I usually don’t take people’s comments to heart, atleast not everybody’s and certainly not the negative ones. I adhere to the fact that everybody is entitled to their opinions and have a right to voice them. But it is upto me to take it into consideration and worry my head about it. So, most comments about me, my life and the way I look, I tend to send right over my head. But something someone told me a few days back has been rankling me for a long time now and causing me a lot of unnecessary worry.

But it also made me realize one thing. An inane comment, no matter how intellectually put, can affect people in different ways. I know I make a lot of inane comments to people I know well; to people I’m merely acquainted with and even to mere strangers. And never once have I stopped to think how it’d have affected them or in which way they’d take it. It’s easy to have a devil-may-care attitude or even a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. But truth be told, it affects everybody in some way. Once said is said, once heard is heard, can’t be retracted forever. It’s going to be there at the back of them mind like an itch and as time goes by it’ll develop into a full blown one.

My point over here – watch ur words before you say them. Think twice and think once more and then speak if u have to. Never know how the other person is going to take it.
